Spicy Charred Jalapeño Garlic BBQ Sauce
This BBQ sauce features charred jalapeños blended with garlic, tomatoes, and spices for a tangy and spicy condiment. It can be used as a marinade, basting sauce, or dipping sauce, and yields about 2 cups.
Ingredients
- 4 fresh jalapeños, halved and seeds removed
- 4 cloves garlic, unpeeled
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
Instructions
- Char the Jalapeños and Garlic: Preheat a grill or broiler. Place the jalapeños and unpeeled garlic on the grill or under the broiler. Cook until charred and blistered, about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Peel the Garlic: Once cool enough to handle, peel the garlic cloves and set aside.
- Blend the Sauce: In a blender, combine the charred jalapeños, peeled garlic, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Blend until smooth.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if necessary. If you prefer a thinner consistency, add a little water until desired thickness is reached.
- Store: Transfer the sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld. Use within 1 week.
